The Heritage Classic victory at Winnipeg drew 33,240 at Investors Group Field. Fans wore both Jets and Oilers jerseys to the league's 19th outdoor game.

The NHL said the start of the game was delayed due to melting ice from "intermittent sunlight on the playing surface" and "in the interest of player safety."

Mark Letestu, Zack Kassian and Darnell Nurse scored for Edmonton.

New York's John Tavares had two goals and an assist and Johnny Boychuk scored for the second straight game as the Islanders beat Minnesota 6-3.

Calvin de Haan, Alan Quine and Thomas Hickey also scored for the Islanders.

Zach Parise scored twice for Minnesota to top 300 goals for his career, and Nino Niederreiter also scored.

The Rangers beat Arizona 3-2, with Dan Girardi's goal early in the third period proving decisive.

Anaheim won its home opener after starting the season with five road games, defeating Vancouver 4-2 after Nick Ritchie scored the tiebreaking goal on a rebound with 8:36 to play.
